Unicoi State Park: Close to Home, Far from Ordinary

Unicoi State Park is one of those rare places that never gets old—no matter how many times you go. It's right here in our backyard, but somehow, it always feels like you're stepping into a whole new world. The trees seem taller, the air feels lighter, and life just slows down in all the best ways.

This park has something for everyone. Whether you're an experienced hiker looking for your next trail, a family needing a weekend escape, or just someone hoping to breathe in some mountain air — Unicoi delivers. From zip lining through the treetops, to paddleboarding across the lake, to letting the kids (or pups!) run wild at the parks—there’s no shortage of adventure. And if you're not into roughing it, don’t worry — there are plenty of lodging options that make “getting outside” feel a little more cozy.

One of my favorite things about Unicoi is that it welcomes everyone. Whether it's your first time visiting or you've lived here your whole life, the park somehow makes you feel like you belong. It reminds me why we started Haggard Hiker in the first place — to make outdoor life more accessible, more meaningful, and more fun for everyone.

So, if you're looking for a quick getaway that doesn’t feel quick at all, go check it out. Pack a picnic, lace up your boots, load up the dog, or grab your favorite people and just go. Unicoi has a little magic for everyone—right here in the North Georgia mountains.

See you out there,
Katie
